Ashwoods have been awarded a three year, £1.8 million Research and Development grant funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

This funding will give Ashwoods a further platform to develop more advanced, efficient electric and hybrid vehicle systems.

The Technology Strategy Board funding is part of the £10million Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform. This is aimed at bringing expert groups together to collaborate on highly innovative research projects in the field of ultra-efficient electrical vehicle systems.

Citroen UK, LifeBATT and Sevcon are joined by Ashwoods as the consortium’s project leader, and have been brought together to develop an ultra-advanced electric power system, scalable from 25kw up to 150kw.

The solution is being designed for a wide range of applications – from mild hybrid ancillaries to larger, fully electric vehicle drive trains. Citroen UK plans to roll-out the final designs across their commercial vehicle range – beginning, at the end of 2010, with the consortium’s first full prototype of a 25kw system, for installation on the Citroen Berlingo commercial van.

For total budget control and reporting purposes, Ashwoods has developed an onboard tool that gives fleet managers access to real-time MPG figures for each of their commercial fleet vehicles.

The bespoke Fuel Logger is a device that fits neatly into the sun visor and simply requires the driver to enter litres fuelled and total mileage at each refuel. Data is sent instantly to the Ashwoods website, where customers can securely login and track MPG achieved for each vehicle.

The Fuel Logger is available as part of the Ashwoods Hybrid system or as an individual unit, ready to fit existing vehicles within the fleet.
